When architecture succeeds, light is almost always part of the reason, and when it fails, light is often the missing piece.
In many well-designed small projects, the lighting has been left to electrical planning or product suppliers rather than being shaped as an integral design element. The result is spaces that may function technically, but lack atmosphere, balance, or visual hierarchy.
This seminar series was created to change that. It invites architects and interior architects to take a closer look at how light influences the perception, usability, and emotional quality of space. In the first module, we focus on residential and office environments, showing through practical examples how lighting can support daily life, emphasize spatial qualities, and create comfort and identity.
Participants will learn to:
Identify and avoid the most common lighting mistakes in homes and workplaces.
Understand the aesthetic and atmospheric impact of light in everyday and professional contexts.
Integrate lighting intentionally into the architectural design process — from the early sketch to detailed planning.
Apply practical “dos and don’ts” and use a checklist to review and improve lighting in their own projects.
The format is a live online seminar (via Zoom or Teams) with interactive discussions and a closing Q&A session, designed to be informative but also inspiring.
In future sessions, the series will expand to cover lighting solutions for retail spaces, educational buildings, and cultural institutions.
Currently, the seminar is held in German, but may be offered in English at a later stage.
